The week before Easter is known as “Semana Santa” in Spanish. It is a busy time for businesses in Manuel Antonio as both Costa Ricans and vacationers from all over the world come in search of a fun, relaxing beach vacation.
During peak weeks like this one, the beaches in our area receive thousands of visitors. Thankfully, Tulemar Beach is well-staffed and not as crowded, as use of the beach is reserved for guests staying at Tulemar. The public beaches in our area are more heavily impacted and it is important that a community effort is made to restore the beaches to the natural, pristine appearance both locals and tourists to the area enjoy year-round.
With this purpose in mind, a community beach clean-up event is planned to take place on Sunday, April 20th, from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.
The goal of the event is to bring the community together in a fun atmosphere to help our beaches return to their natural beauty after the crowds from Semana Santa depart. We hope it is a major success and will be a recurring activity.
Understanding that motivation may be lacking to come out on a hot Sunday afternoon and pick up trash, the Manuel Antonio Brewing Company, who is sponsoring the event, has come up with an attractive initiative to draw participants.
Naming the event, “Pounds for Pints,” the local brewing company will be rewarding participants with a free pint of cold beer for each full bag of trash collected. Iced tea and soda will be available for children and those who wish to have a non-alcoholic prize drink. Musical entertainment is also planned.
Come by and join the fun if you are in town!
